Servicer News, Vol. 3 Spring 2013

GreatAmerica Portfolio Services Group (GPSG) is a lease and loan outsourcing service provider specializing in third party, backup, and successor servicing. We focus on developing mutually beneficial relationships with banks, independent financial companies, captives, vendors, manufacturers, trustees and financial investors, ultimately helping them achieve greater success.

Variable Billing Solutions

This past quarter, we were presented an opportunity that required variable billing functionality. The financing program has no fixed amortizing payments. The data file would come from the Customer each month and be imported to generate an amount on the invoice. Based on our parent's expertise of handling similar financing products, we implemented an automated solution that substantially eliminated manual intervention. Additionally, we set up the specific accounting reports required to keep accurate records of the production and payment amounts.

Front-end Solutions

GPSG recently commenced a partnership with Vision Commerce to offer front-end processing solutions to our customers. Our customers can now manage their relationships, credit processing, pricing, documentation and reporting as secured subscribers.

GPSG can play a role in helping to process originations or just assist in configuring the solution to meet the customer's need. As a result, we are offering our customers a value-add front-end solution that complements our back-end services.

Third Party Servicing Solutions

Controlling your customer experience is only one of the value-add offerings of bringing the servicing for all your lenders on to a single servicing platform. Having the ability to build your brand equity in a consistent manner can be the difference in retaining a current customer in the very competitive industry we are experiencing. We understand this role and are willing to act as your value-add private label servicer. We have had success with our own brand equity for our own portfolio and are interested in helping you get there.

Backup Servicing Solutions

We do what we say. Issuers, rating agencies, and investors want assurances that a backup servicer has the capability, commitment, and resources to perform the assigned duties. GreatAmerica has built a strong name over the past 20 years and has embraced each business assignment with the eagerness to deliver on items such as data mapping, transition planning, and readiness to take over servicing.

GreatAmerica Portfolio Services Group has adopted the open door management style of its parent company. Our organizational chart puts the customer in the center and surrounds them with teams supported by experience senior leadership - we are not bound by the silo structure of most finance companies. Service continuity is maintained by teams of cross-trained individuals with intimate knowledge of the customer's needs. This structure has successfully served our customers since 2001, ensuring scalability and smooth and consistent delivery of services.

Rachel Furman has been a customer relations professional with GreatAmerica for two years. She handles inbound customer service calls and outbound courtesy verification calls and email, as well as asset management and booking. Before GreatAmerica, Rachel worked in customer service, sales, and marketing in the retail industry.

A native Iowan, she played college volleyball and graduated with a degree in public relations and communications. “I really like talking to different people every day,” says Rachel. "No two days are ever the same!”

Tips for Successful Management

I have been fortunate to work for some very talented managers throughout my 25-year career. As a result, I've incorporated styles from my favorite managers. Here's my management checklist that I use as a guide in my own managing.

Hire employees who are better than you. While contradictory to some managers, hire the person who has better sales skills, better analytical skills, or other relevant skills.

Train your employees. You hired the employee who is better than you. Make sure they understand their role so they can be successful.

Coach your employees. Assist your employees and empower them to do better and succeed in their position.

Support your employees. Always find the good in what they do.

Fire them - Never the employee's fault. It means you as the manager did not hire the right person, train them, coach them, or support them correctly. If you do the first four items correctly, you'll never have to do this.

Never get in the way of progress for one of your employees. Even if it means their progress takes them above you. If so, it is a positive reflection on you as their hiring manager.
